TITLE: “au Loup!” – To the Woolf!
Hiolin left his native city Septmont (Aisne) in 1864 and entered the École des Beaux-Arts the following year. Soon after, he became employed by the renowned architect Violet-le-duc and sculpted some works for the Château de Pierrefonds. The present model is arguably his best known and was exhibited at the Salon in 1887 and acquired the same year by the city of Paris at the Buttes-Chaumont.

MORE ABOUT THIS STATUE: Magnificent and detailed Bronze sculpture by Louis Auguste Hiolin depicting a shepherd wearing a belt, standing over a dead sheep, and pointing forward in command to his dog to pursue a wolf. Signed “Miolin” on broken board beneath sheep.
