MORE ABOUT THIS ARTWORK:  This Amazing One of a kind Model piece was donated to a museum by the estate of Dr. Ladislao Reti and his wife in 1973, the year that Dr. Reti passed away.  Here bellow are details that was discovered by us about this remarkable find, that make us believe that The Bell of this item could of been used by Leonardo Da Vinci himself for his research and discovery of the Bell Support Mechanism:

The New York Times article: Ladislao Reti, Who Helped Find Leonardo Notebooks, Dies

Dr. Ladislao Reti, an authority on Leonardo da Vinci, die near Milan, Italy, on Oct. 25, according to word reaching here yesterday.

Dr. Reti, of the University California at Los Angeles played a major role in the discovery of the long‐lost note books of the Italian master the National Library in Madrid in 1965.

The actual find was made by Dr. Jules Piccus, also a Leonardo scholar, and he and Dr Reti authenticated the documents in 1967.

The find; which consisted of some 700 pages of manuscript and drawings, lost for almost two centuries, established Leonardo as the inventor of several devices, among them the chair drive.

About 5,000 pages of Leonardo’s manuscripts have been discovered, and the latest find, which contained some of his most elaborate and careful work, added much to the rich store of the master’s work.

Dr. Reti’s work at the California library involved him with one of the world’s foremost Leonardo collections, given by Dr. Elmer Belt.

Dr. Ladislao Reti was the editor and co-author of the book “The Unknown Leonardo”, that was published 1 year after his death in 1974.

Dr. Reti was the author of this chapter “Elements of Machines,” pages 244-287

On page 282 in his book, Dr. Reti exhibited detailed drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci’s theory of his Bell support Mechanize invention.

Dr. Reti described in the book that there were two similar systems appeared – “More then 200 years after Leonardo made the sketches for the bell support, an identical system appeared in Jacob Leopold’s Theatrum Generale.  Then, another century later, J.V Poncelet in his Traite de Mecanique Industrielle  described the method used in supporting the Mutte bell in the cathedral de Matz.”  (Dr. Rati also published copy of these two drawings in the book at the opposite page where he posted Leonardo’s 1500 AD original notes and drawings of the Bell Support Mechanism.)

Jacob Leopold, Theatrum Machinarum Generale (“The General Theory of Machines”):

The Mutte bell in the cathedral de Matz:

Drawings of the versions that appeared 200 years later

Dr. Reti mentioned that he (the author of the chapter) ordered a model of the support mechanism – “An Exact copy of Leonardo’s solution, A working model (Photo bellow) based on Leonardo’s drawings, was commissioned by the author of this chapter and carried out by Sinibaldo Parrini Of Florence” (The author of this Chapter was Dr. Rati)

The main difference between the two variation are the type of Arms that Holding the Bell.  By looking at our version of the Bell Support Mechanism, it is safe to say that the version we have is closer to the Da Vinci drawings, but yet, the version that featured in the book was the similar version that appeared 200 and 3oo later.

According to the commemorative plaque that on our model, Dr. Reti and his wife donate it in 1973.  Therefore, we know that Dr. Reti had our model on hand when he edited his book.  Since our Bell mechanism model is more like the Original Leonardo’s Notes, then we need to ask ourselves these questions – 1. Why did Dr. Reti posted the photo of the After Leonardo’s version and not our version that is more exact?  2. Why did Dr. Reti had to order a model of the Bell Support System if he already had our model on hand?

CONCLUSION:  When addressing the question of why Dr. Reti chose to post and promote a specific model of the Bell Support Mechanism in the “Unknown Leonardo” book, you can consider several possibilities.

While the exact motivations may not be definitively known without direct input from Dr. Reti, you can offer educated speculations based on common practices in historical and scholarly contexts. Here’s a statement:

In our exploration of the Bell Support Mechanism attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, we delve into the intriguing choices made by Dr. Reti, a distinguished authority on Leonardo’s work. Notably, during the editing of the “Unknown Leonardo” book, Dr. Reti presented two drawings versions of a Bell Support Mechanism.

What stands out is Dr. Reti’s decision to prominently feature a photo of one model while omitting the other, which aligns more closely with Leonardo’s original drawings. While the specific reasons behind this choice remain uncertain, scholars often make decisions in the editing process based on various considerations, such as clarity of presentation, emphasis on certain aspects, or the desire to engage the audience in a particular way.

The omission of the more exact model in the book raises intriguing questions. Could it be a deliberate choice to spark curiosity, encourage further exploration, or underscore the dynamic nature of interpreting Leonardo’s intricate designs? As we ponder these questions, we find inspiration in the connection between historical interpretations and contemporary creations.

In attributing our Bell model to Leonardo da Vinci, we acknowledge the complexities of historical interpretation. While the direct usage of our Bell by Leonardo remains unverifiable, we embrace the spirit of homage and innovation, drawing on the legacy of both Dr. Reti’s insights and Leonardo’s unparalleled genius.

In Dr. Reti’s exploration of Leonardo’s ideas, a particular bell support system model was highlighted, distinct from Leonardo’s known drawings. Our rendition, though not claiming direct usage by Leonardo, is a homage to his innovative spirit and the creative journey he undertook. Dr. Reti’s decision not to include this model in his book adds an intriguing dimension, prompting us to attribute our bell model to the influence of Leonardo’s vast imagination.
